Shy crushed pulled-in Hillary, working for you every moment of every day and why don't see how fun and warm she really is?

The NYT reports on Cher's speech at a very Cher-friendly fundraiser in Provincetown, Massachusetts. And I watched the full video here and did my own transcription.

Cher is talking about getting to know Hillary through much experience doing teas with her, and Cher says she told Hillary, "You are so much fun and you are so warm and you are all these things I've never seen when you speak."

Cher asked Hillary why and, as Cher tells it:
She said because she got so crushed — I hope she doesn't mind my telling this story — too late now!— and she said because she got so crushed by the G.O.P., just for trying to set up health care, and she never thought it would be so personal, and she said it made her kind of pull in and she's shy, so it was difficult, and so she kind of kept that with her, but, you know, she is shy, and she's not the greatest speaker in the world, but...and this is what I believe, and this is what I know: She will work every moment of every day.... This chick is just tougher than Chinese algebra.
So she's tougher than Chinese algebra, but she got so crushed when the GOP opposed her health care plan. Which is it? Maybe she's tough in private, after she kind of pulls in. She's so shy and kind of kept that with her. Kept what with her? That crushed, pulled in feeling that she got when Congress didn't go along with that plan she worked so hard on?

She might not be that good at speaking, but she'll pull back into herself and work every moment of every day. Work work work! She may not talk too much — and we know she won't take questions from the press. It's just so crushing when they don't go along with everything she worked so hard on. But she will pull in and turn that crushing into hours and hours of work work work and if only you really knew her, as Cher does, you would know she's so much fun and so warm and... all these things.

But let's take a closer look at that Chinese algebra. Is that racist? Is that sexist? Math class is tough...

... as Barbie said long ago, outraging feminists. And I guess you throw "Chinese" on top of that and get some kind of reference to the stereotype that Chinese students are especially good at math. Why carelessly throw "Chinese" around to try to be funny?

But Cher didn't put those 2 words together all on her own. "Chinese algebra" is enough of an expression that it has an Urban Dictionary definition going all the way back to 2003: "a hard type of math." But I don't know if it was ever used to talk about math. It seems all along to have been a way to talk about erections. It looks as though the original use of the word was from Tom Waits, back in 1976, "Pasties And A G-String":
She's a-hot and ready, creamy and sugared
And the band is awful and so are the tunes
Crawlin' on her belly, and shakin' like jelly
And I'm gettin' harder than Chinese algebra-ssieres...
So Cher thinks Hillary is as hard as Tom Waits watching an erotic dancer. But shy, too! Very very shy. Shy and crushed and pulled in. It's so difficult! So keep it all deep within you and work — work every moment of every day.

Cher is clearly a racist.

Also is it any wonder that trump trails in polls when Hillary has friends like Cher, Jessica beil, justin timberlake and babs...

But seriously dos any one care what these racists think?

Yes, I can see that. She is a shy introvert that is ignorant of the ways of the world until the EVIL GOP went after her for just trying to help people. Why oh why won't people let her help people?

I can personally attest to how shy she is. I got that from that audio recording of her laughing about getting that child rapist off.

Shy, misunderstood, picked on Hillary. Oh won't you show her how much you care by electing her President? She has earned it!

Possibly the only consolation that this nightmare election season has to offer for me is the puncturing of the collective delusions that certain people have about Hillary Clinton over the years. For the longest time Hillary Clinton had a ridiculous mythology built up around her that was perpetuated by vacuous daytime talkshows, checkout line magazines, and various Hollywood sorts. But over the course of the last few years there have been revelations that suggests a much more grasping, venal, mean spirited person who lies so much that it's even difficult for her to keep track of all her stories.

I'm looking at the other part of the sentence.

"This chick?"

I thought women saw the use of "chick" as diminutive.

For Hillary, I think "This broad" works better.

Yes, a size joke.

But also an avenue to discuss the difference between "chicks" and "broads".

When discussing this difference imagine yourself hearing Frank Sinatra saying it.

Yeah. Hillary and her campaign just hate it when celebrities try to paint her as human after all.

Not that I need convincing. Glad Cher reminded me of Mrs. Clinton's health care plan. I was profoundly moved when Hillary, asked about the impact of her recommended taxes on small businesses, replied, "I can't be expected to go out and save every undercapitalized small business out there."

She really cares, folks. It's too bad the opposition was just so mean.

I've always thought that this quote summed up how totally, painfully, ignorant Crooked Hilary is about math, business or anything else.

It doesn't matter how well or how poorly capitalized a business is. If it pays expenses (health insurance) out of capital, it is going to go broke. A very well capitalized business will take longer to go broke than a poorly capitalized one, but it will run out of capital eventually, sure as eggs.

If the revenue is not enough to cover expenses, shutdown looms.

Now the reality (like Obamacare):

"In August 1994, Democratic Senate Majority Leader George J. Mitchell introduced a compromise proposal that would have delayed requirements of employers until 2002 and exempted small businesses. However, "even with Mitchell’s bill, there were not enough Democratic Senators behind a single proposal to pass a bill, let alone stop a filibuster."

Cher and Hilary exist in the public eye for the same reason, they both married a man who carried them along.

Cher only exists because of Sonny. For all his buffoonishness, Sonny was the brains of the operation.

Cher would be nothing without Sonny.

Trivia: Sonny copied the act from Louis Prima and Keely Smith. I think they did it much better. I had a huge crush on Keely Smith in my younger days. Still do.

Re Chinese algebra -
You all realize that mathematics instruction in China is a complete foreign borrowing. The Chinese, on China, use the Roman and Greek alphabet for variables, and the whole system of notation is the western one.
Using common modern theories of cultural hegemony, etc, they should be assumed to be working with a handicap, having to adopt alien systems.
But they dont seem to be handicapped do they.
Modern cultural theories do not adapt to observations however.

Math notation is foreign to everyone at first, as are Greek letters for most people, so I don't think their using western characters is a big deal.

Sorry, missed the humor. I was surprised just how little DLR changed the songs arrangement in his version, more a copy than a cover.

Which brings up an interesting point. Bill Clinton is justifiably famous as a horndog, but he is hardly indiscriminate. Whether long-term lovers like Gennifer Flowers, infatuated victims like Monica Lewinsky, or actual or attempted rapes like so many we could name, the women Bill Clinton pursued were physically attractive, often very attractive. With one exception; the woman he married. Even when she was young, she was never pretty, or even presentable, and her clothes were not chosen to disguise that fact. What do you suppose got into him, to marry such a creature?

I find the "work hard for you" meme curious. Do we really elect people to work hard for us? It seems to me elected officials use this formulation because they know they really are not working hard -- for anybody, much less for their constituents. They are just cruising along, asking people for money and constantly a little surprised that a lot of people are willing to give more and more. But the "work hard for you" idea strikes me as so dishonest they just keep spouting it to convince themselves as much as their voters. I think of ditch diggers as working hard, and even public school teachers. But politicians? Especially at the very top, where they have every whim catered to? No, I just cannot credit that.
